The author of "Sherlock Holmes" is Sir. Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930). He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He studied medicine at Edinburgh University. He inspired the creation of Sherlock Holmes his professor, Dr Joseph Bell. In 1887 he crated Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock appears in 60 stories, seven million hardbacks and a 100 million paperbacks have been sold, in 62 languages. More than 70 actors have played him in more than 200 films. Sherlock Holmes returns in 2010 in a new film.
